Information sent on behalf of Cumbria County Council

Cumbria Trading Standards are warning residents in Barrow-in-Furness about doorstep callers in the area offering to provide roof repairs.

Consumers should be extremely cautious when approached by any cold callers offering to conduct work on their property.  Although the initial price quoted may be low, these types of callers can often use persuasive or aggressive tactics to get people to agree to have work carried out and then charge far more than was quoted for poor quality work.

In most cases where a contract for work over £42 has been agreed in the home you should be given a written cancellation notice detailing your right to a 14 day cooling off period.

Trading Standards and Police advice is to always say ‘NO’ to any cold callers.

If you have been cold called or wish to report an incident please contact us via the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline on 03454 04 05 06 or visit or alternatively contact Cumbria Police on 101.
