Alert message sent 06/12/2017 09:48:00

Information sent on behalf of Cumbria Police

Cumbria Police have received a report of cold calling in the Great Urswick area. The incident occurred  on Wednesday the 29 th of November at 20.40 hours when a female described as of Asian origin and wearing a hijab (no other description of clothing) knocked at the front door and requested to read the water meter. The female was holding a piece of paper but had no means of identification . The female was with another person ( gender not known) who was parked outside the property with the vehicles headlights on full shining into the property making it difficult for the resident to see. When a neighbour came out to see what was happening, the female ran off and got into the vehicle which then  drove off at speed.

Cumbria Police would like to remind all residents to be mindful of cold callers and be aware of family members or neighbours who may be vulnerable .

All incidents should be reported via 101 or 101 email as soon as possible  (999 in an emergency)
