Cumbria Police have recently launched Child Exploitation Awareness and the following will provide you with signs to look out for in your Community.

What are County Lines?

Vulnerable people of all ages are being used by criminals across the country to courier drugs and money. These drug dealers will often take up residence in a person’s home (known as cuckooing) to sell drugs in the local area.

Signs to look for:
  • A young person going missing from school or home, refusing to say where they were
  • Meeting with unfamiliar people; older, those not from the area, or ignoring usual peer group
  • Using drugs, alcohol or unprescribed medication
  • Money, new clothes, mobile phones/SIM cards or expensive gift’s they can’t account for
  • A neighbour who has not been seen for a while or have become distant
  • Increase in visitors, vehicles Inc. Taxis, cycles going to a neighbour’s home-staying briefly then moving on
  • New people staying at property whilst resident is still there
  • Young people travelling alone during school hours
  • Unexplained injuries or subjected to threats
  • Change in mood or temperament; Increased anxiety or stress
